The New Testament refers to "church" over 140 times. Not one of these references is to a place or an event. So, why do we "go to church?" Why do we attach the prepositions "at" and "to" and "in" with the word "church," even though the Bible never does? Wouldn't it make more sense to emphasize being the church? That's why we focus on being the church in the daily to the people we encounter in our various spheres of living (family, neighborhood, marketplace, world, and web), instead of just "going to church" or "seeing you at church." Because the church was intended to exist everyday.

So, everywhere you go and to everyone you meet, give love. Love your spouse. Love your kids. Love your friends. Love your co-workers. Love your schoolmates. Even love your enemies, and pray for them. Love like Jesus loves. Put the interests of others above your own. Be the church.

The message of God's love has been written not on stone tablets, but on human hearts. If you follow Jesus, your very life is a letter of His love read as you live sent daily. God intended for us to live beyond self, and as we do our lives become a sentence in the grander story of the God who came near and restored humanity unto Himself and into togetherness with one another through the cross.

• pray for the people you live by and work with
• connect with them over real life (a meal, a game, an activity, etc.)
• invite them to serve with you both locally and globally
• learn and live the ways of Jesus together as you connect and serve
