Being the church online
So many people today exist in both “time and space” and “cyberspace.” Being online is just part of life now for our culture. The kids of today will grow up never knowing anything besides wireless internet and cell phones with GPS tracking systems and IPods.
Since we exist in this sphere, then we must be the church here, also. AND that means more than just throwing sermons online. Let’s be honest…most people out there who are not connected with a church family care little about the pastor’s message from Sunday. They want to talk about life and hear about how we are living it.
That’s why WFC is committed to being the church online. We want to love and serve people right where they are as they express themselves online.
We recognize that people can pretend all they want online to be someone they are not. However, we are finding that people actually tend to be more authentic online than in real life. This is because they exist only metaphysically online in heart and soul and personality. There is no physical or outward appearance to be judged by, like in so many other arenas of our culture. So, people can be who they are because there is no surface through which to permeate.

Bottom line…the church needs to be connecting with people online in an authentic, to-the-core type of way. That’s why WFC emphasizes being the church in this sphere of influence.
